5 Families Left Homeless After Hoboken Fire, Officials Say

HOBOKEN, NJ — A fire in Hoboken on Friday morning has left five families homeless, a city spokesperson said.

Firefighters headed to an apartment building at Ninth and Monroe streets just after 7:30 a.m., officials said.

Roads were temporarily closed but have since reopened, said city spokesperson Marilyn Baer, and the fire has been extinguished.

Baer said that tenants will be allowed to get their belongings with an escort from the Fire Department. Construction code officials have not yet determined when the residents will be allowed back into their homes.

There were no injuries, Baer said.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
