UPDATED: Flash Floods Possible With Inch Or More Of Rain In Hoboken Area Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hudson County, predicting an inch or more of rain Thursday.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The National Weather Service has said an inch to an inch and a half of rain could fall in Hudson County on Thursday.

Wind gusts could climb as high as 26 MPH.

The NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook for Hudson and four other counties saying:

"An approaching cold front on Thursday will result in widespread moderate to locally heavy rainfall along with gusty winds. A widespread 1-1.5" of rainfall is expected, with locally higher totals possible. While widespread flooding is not expected at this time, there is potential for localized flash flooding."

High tide in Hoboken on Thursday will be at 11:35 a.m. but the bulk of the rain is expected to hit in afternoon.

For comparison, the deadly Tropical Depression Ida last Sept. 1, 2021 dumped more than 7 inches of rain in a short time on parts of North Jersey, leaving flooded corners in Hoboken.

The Forecast For Hoboken

The forecast for Thursday morning says: "A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 71. South wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph."

Later: "A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., then a chance of showers after 3 a.m."
