Future Of Hoboken's Schools: Public Meeting Planned This Week

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken school district will host the third of three community engagement meetings this Thursday. The meetings are designed to discuss the district's future.

This meeting on Thursday will focus on the district's new strategic plan, including core values, action plans, mission, and what a Hoboken High School graduate should look like.

Hoboken's public schools include a high school, middle school, and three elementary schools. The numbers do not include Hoboken's three charter schools, which are considered separate districts.

At the first engagement meeting in July, Schools Superintendent Dr. Christine Johnson shared enrollment statistics showing that 3,746 students were enrolled in the district this past year. She said this is an increase of nearly 50 percent over the 2,500 students in the 2015-2016 school year.

The second meeting, in August, involved the future of the district's aging facilities.

The meeting this Thursday will be held at 6 p.m. at the Hoboken High School auditorium, 800 Clinton St. It's open to the public.
