GoFundMe Launched For Hoboken Mom Of 6 Who Died In Jersey City

"Kyelia worked hard to support her family and wanted their children to have the best of everything," wrote a friend about the Hoboken mom.

HOBOKEN, NJ — After a Hoboken mom and beloved resident activist was found dead at a Jersey City motel two weeks ago, people have been asking for answers. And some have started raising funds to help her family, including her children.

A GoFundMe for Kyelia Colon says,"There are not enough words to describe the soul that was taken from our hearts. Kyelia Colon-Walker was the heart of our family, the baby, and one with many dreams that will never be fulfilled. Kyelia touched many people's hearts. She was the voice of all voices advocating. Kyelia was a dedicated, mother, daughter, sister and friend."

"Kyelia was married to Felix 'Razel' and they have six wonderful children together," it adds. "Kyelia worked hard to support her family and wanted their children to have the best of everything."

The fundraiser had raised $1,1813 of a $20,000 goal as of Wednesday morning.

"With all of the emotional pain and stress that death brings, it can also bring financial burdens," says the fundraiser. "We would like to raise money for Kyelia’s family to help with any costs that will incur and to help wherever needed."

Meanwhile, relatives are still asking for answers. Police have released few details of Colon's death. They said she was found shortly after noon that Friday, and had been dead six to 12 hours before.

Family members had posted on social media that she had been missing since Wednesday.

A few have also posted photos of a man and said he was responsible for her death and is still at large, but police have not confirmed this.

The Hudson County Prosecutors' Office, which usually handles homicide investigations, said Tuesday that the Jersey City police are still the lead agency.

A spokesperson for the Jersey City Police Department said recently, "The JCPD’s Major Case Unit is doing everything possible as they actively investigate her death. Police are awaiting the medical examiner’s report to confirm the female’s identification and cause of death."

Barbara Reyes, who has served on the Hoboken Housing Authority Board, wrote last week, "I never thought I would be writing this about Kyeila. I must say this one is a hard one to swallow. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Colon while advocating together for the HHA years ago. She was a true advocate for the HHA community, while being a devoted mother to her children and devoted daughter to her mother.

"I ask please pray for her family and our community," she wrote. "Her family lost a daughter, sister, mother and our community lost an advocate. I pray justice is served for Kyeila."
