Got Family Members With Mental Health Issues? Hudson County NAMI Starting Course

You're not alone if you have a family member with mental health issues. Hudson County NAMI has a Family to Family course and other supports.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Not everyone understands the complexities of trying to help a family member with mental health issues. But the nationwide group NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, does. And they've got various resources in Hudson County, including a support group and a Family to Family course that will start this month.

This Friday, Sept. 22, they'll start the new round of their eight-week Family to Family Course.

In this course, they say, participants will:

• Learn about family responses to the trauma of mental illness • Receive current information on serious mental illnesses • Learn about symptoms, medication and side effects • Practice problem solving skills and communication techniques • Develop strategies for handling crisis and relapses • Review local community resources and support. • Focus on self-care and coping with stress.

Dates: Every Friday for 2 hours, Sept. 22 to Nov. 10
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET
Place: Zoom Virtual meeting (link will be sent out a few days prior to the start date)
