Group Protests ICE Arrests Near Hoboken/Jersey City Border: Photos
Hudson County residents protested recent ICE arrests and asked NJ Transit about its policies recently.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — After ICE arrested 10 people in an operation near the Hoboken/Jersey City border this month, an activist group protested in the same area on Wednesday.
The group Visibility Brigade, known for their offbeat protest signs, came to the elevator near the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station during Wednesday morning rush hour.

"Protesting is not a crime," read one sign, referencing citizens shot to death and arrested during protests.

Others signs argued that federal agents have violated residents' Constitutional rights. In the last year, people have been detained accidentally or during hearings they were attending to become citizens.

An ICE spokeswoman told Patch that the 10 people arrested in Jersey City on Feb. 1. were in the country illegally. She said she could not release more information.

Later on Wednesday night, local residents, including Hudson County Commissioner candidate Ron Bautista, attended an NJ Transit meeting to ask if immigrants were protected on Transit property.
The CEO of NJ Transit reportedly said the agency will comply with the governor's directive. New Gov. Mikie Sherrill have said that ICE agents can't operate on state property without a judicial warrant or order.
