Hey, Hoboken, Jersey City, And NYC: Expect Fireworks Tonight, June 5

New parents, pet owners, and people who want sleep often complain about "surprise" NYC fireworks. Expect some on June 5.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — What's that noise? Residents of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Manhattan often complain when they hear unexpected fireworks [Looking for the source of the fireworks on Wednesday, June 4, 2025? Go here for those.]

In fact, dogs have run from their yards and babies have howled after hearing the loud noises.

So, just as a warning: the nonprofit Lighthouse/Gift of Life expects to set off fireworks from Pier 60 on the Hudson River on Wednesday, June 5, around 9:40 p.m.

In fact, the group also set off fireworks on Pier 60 a year ago. And residents on both sides of the Hudson River asked why.

Meanwhile, there have been so many questions about "surprise fireworks," the stories could be their own genre.

Residents were particularly (and understandably) peeved when fireworks went off the night before the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, back in 2021.
