Final Election Numbers In Hoboken Council Runoff Election Are Certified, Released

The Hudson County clerk has certified the numbers in the 1st Ward runoff election between Paul Presinzano and Rafi Cordova.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's City Council election results from Dec. 5 were certified by the Hudson County Clerk's office on Monday, making the tally official.

The official numbers are: Paul Presinzano, 720, Rafi Cordova, 553.

Presinzano, who had also run for council in 2021, will take office next month.

Three candidates ran for the 1st Ward council seat in November, and only the two top vote-getters entered a runoff. Seats on the nine-member City Council pays $35,000 a year.

Incumbent Councilman Michael DeFusco decided not to run again, leaving the seat open for a new voice.

Cordova was endorsed by Mayor Ravi Bhalla and his council allies.

Low Turnout

According to the county's numbers, 1,287 people voted in the race (including write-in votes), only 20 more than in the three-way race a month earlier.

The 1st Ward has 6,264 registered voters, meaning that fewer than a quarter turned out for the race.
