Hoboken Baseball Parade Returns: Opening Day April 9

After a hiatus, Hoboken's beloved Opening Day Parade for baseball will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The first organized game of baseball was played in Hoboken, and now a beloved local baseball-related tradition will return. The city announced that the Opening Day Parade will take place on Saturday, April 9.

According to Councilwoman Emily Jabbour, "Hoboken Little League and softball players will gather at the Elks Club (10th/Washington) at 9 a.m. to then march starting at 10 a.m. to the Little League field at 4th and Sinatra."

The parade kicks off the new season for children's baseball leagues.

Hoboken has a special place not just in baseball lore, but in Little League lore as well. Hoboken's Maria Pepe fought in the 1970s for girls like her to be able to play. Among those who helped her was coach and current City Clerk James Farina. READ MORE: This Is Why Girls Can Play Little League
