Hoboken Cops Arrest 2 ‘Wrong Way’ Drivers On DWI Charges

The North Brunswick and Elizabeth men were each charged with DWI and reckless driving, Hoboken police said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police arrested two, allegedly intoxicated drivers who were both seen driving the wrong way in traffic during separate incidents last weekend, authorities say.

According to the Hoboken Police Department, the first arrest took place on Saturday, when Kevin Nielsen, 26, of North Brunswick, was allegedly seen driving the wrong way towards an officer on patrol.

The officer said that Nielsen reversed the vehicle and struck a parked car before coming to a stop, police stated.

When the officer approached the car, he “immediately detected the odor of alcohol” coming from Nielsen, who allegedly had several other symptoms of intoxication, police said.

Nielsen failed an on scene field sobriety test and was subsequently transported to police headquarters for processing. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police said that a following test at police headquarters registered Nielsen’s BAC at three times the legal limit of .08%.

Authorities issued Nielsen five motor vehicle summonses: driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, wrong way driving, failure to exhibit registration and driving while intoxicated in a school zone.

HUDSON STREET ARREST

Another DWI arrest took place on Sunday, Hoboken police stated.

In that incident, an officer allegedly saw a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Hudson Street from 2nd Street. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed the odor of alcohol coming from the car, and noted that the driver – Daniel Pecho, 38, of Elizabeth – had “slurred speech” and “bloodshot eyes,” police said.

Pecho failed an on scene field sobriety test and was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, wrong way driving and driving while intoxicated in a school zone.
