Hoboken Event: ‘Sinatra Summer Streets’ Return To Mile Square

In an effort to maximize public space for recreation and enjoyment along Hoboken’s Hudson River waterfront, Hoboken will close Sinatra Drive to vehicles along two locations on August 11 and 25. The initiative, also known as “Sinatra Summer Streets,” will close Sinatra Drive between Newark Street and Fourth Street to vehicle traffic from 8 am to 5 pm this Sunday, August 11. On Sunday, August 25, Sinatra Drive between Fourth Street and Eleventh Street will close to vehicle traffic from 8 am to 5 pm. Parking will also be prohibited along the affected blocks during these times.

“We are proud to bring back the popular “Sinatra Summer Streets” to further expand our efforts to promote sustainable transportation and improve the quality of life for all residents,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “Whether you want to go for a bike ride, take a walk with your family, or go for a jog, I encourage all residents to come out and enjoy our beautiful waterfront, free from vehicular traffic.”

The August 11 closure will expand the promenading space along lower Sinatra Drive adjacent to Pier A and Pier C Parks, while the August 25 closure creates a completely vehicle-free waterfront route for joggers, walkers, bicyclists, and e-scooter riders between Hoboken Terminal and Eleventh Street.

JerseyBike, Hoboken’s bike share operator, is expanding their docking stations along the Waterfront and will be offering free rides on August 11. For more information, visit their table along Sinatra Drive on Sunday.

Sinatra Summer Streets is based on the popular “Open Streets” concept that cities such as New York,Los Angeles, and Cambridge, Massachusetts have instituted to enhance their public spaces by temporarily expanding non-motorized transportation infrastructure for users of all ages and abilities.
