Video Shows Man Rescued From Flood In Hoboken Amid Ida Cleanup

Several corners in Hoboken, NJ were still flooded Thursday as the city cleaned up after Tropical Storm Ida. See photos below.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A day after suffering its fourth flooding event of the summer, Hoboken was still flooded at numerous intersections as the city recovered from Tropical Depression Ida. (See photos below.)

The National Weather Service again extended the flood warning for Hoboken through Friday: "Flooding is ongoing in the warned area from earlier heavy rain. Between 5 and 8.5 inches of rain have fallen according to radar estimates."

Mayor Ravi Bhalla retweeted a resident's video of a water rescue Thursday:

While some may consider flash floods just an inconvenience, these floods have proved fatal to drivers (sometimes trapping parents and children in their cars as water rises) and to children playing near small streams.

A slate of City Council candidates in the Nov. 2 election — Cheryl Fallick, Sheila Brennan and Paul Presinzano of Independently Together — said, “We are heartbroken to see the impact that storms like Ida have on our Hoboken neighbors and small businesses and thankful for the efforts of Hoboken’s emergency response teams ... One reason we are running to represent Hoboken on the City Council is to not only support the critical, system-wide, anti-flooding and resiliency efforts begun by Mayor Zimmer in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, but to also push the current administration and the North Hudson Sewerage Authority to better coordinate directly with all Hoboken property owners.”
