Hoboken High Tide: Coastal Flood Warning Issued Monday For Terminal Area, Hudson County

Hoboken, NJ – Did you notice an unusually high tide near Hoboken Terminal on Monday morning?

The National Weather Service is warning about possible winter weather hazards in Hudson County that may continue into the evening, calling for up to two to three inches of snow in the area, with wind gusts up to 30 mph and temperatures in the lower 30s. Light snow is expected to develop Monday morning and continue into the afternoon, according to the Winter Weather Advisory.

Simultaneously, a coastal flood advisory is in effect for Hudson County from 4:50 to 11 a.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service announced.

Minor to locally moderate coastal impacts are expected to affect the area until Monday night, according to the NWS.

“A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore,” the NWS stated.

Coastal flood impacts include “flooding of the most vulnerable shore roads and/or properties due to height of storm tide or wave splashover… there is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is minimal,” the NWS alert stated.

The flooding promoted questions from multiple Hoboken residents.

“Why is Hoboken Terminal all but flooded?” asked one commuter via Twitter.
