HOBOKEN, NJ — If you want to work part-time in Hoboken helping kids get to school safely, the city's Public Safety Department may have a job for you.

The city of Hoboken is accepting applications for crossing guards ahead of the 2023-2024 school year, for up to 25 hours a week.

You can earn $16 per hour or more, plus benefits and time off. You'll work for the Hoboken Police Department and get trained.

You'll oversee and control traffic flow around schools in the morning, at lunch time, and at dismissal.

"Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, be able to deal with children of all ages, remain calm and decisive in emergencies, and respond to resident inquiries and complaints," the city says.

Crossing guard positions in Hoboken are part-time, under the direction of the Hoboken Police Department, and include 25 hours per week, sick and vacation time, and holiday pay when applicable. Starting salaries are $16/hour, with an increase to $17/hour after the first year of employment. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, be able to deal with children of all ages, remain calm and decisive in emergencies, and respond to resident inquiries and complaints. Those hired will receive at least 20 hours of training by the Hoboken Police Department.
