Forget The Rink at Rockefeller Center, Hoboken. There will be plenty of ice skating chances right here in the Mile Square City this year.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Forget The Rink at Rockefeller Center. This holiday season, there will be plenty of awesome ice skating, memory-making chances right here in Hoboken.

On Wednesday, city officials announced that the municipality will be home to an outdoor skating rink this winter, which will open on Thursday, Dec. 22 and operate to Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.

A public opening celebration will be held at the rink – to be known as the "Harlow Winter Village” - at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.

“I am thrilled to announce that Hoboken will host a pop-up skating rink as a new option for residents and visitors of all ages to get out and have fun this winter,” Mayor Dawn Zimmer said. “Along with our newly-built mini-soccer pitches, this facility will further activate our viaduct recreation area and support our growing, vibrant neighborhood in northwest Hoboken.”

According to city officials, the rink is supported by sponsorship from Advance Realty — developer of the recently opened Harlow Hoboken luxury apartment building at 1330 Willow Avenue — and will be located under the 14th Street Viaduct between Grand Street and Adams Street.

City officials provided an updated hours of operation schedule on Dec. 23:

  • Fri, Dec 23: 11 am to 8 pm‬
  • Sat, Dec 24: 11 am to 6 pm‬
  • ‪Sun, Dec 25: closed‬
  • Mon, Dec 26: 11 am to 6 pm‬
  • Tues through Fri, Dec 27 to 30: 11 am to 8 pm‬

Skate rentals and vendors accept cash only, officials noted.

According to Hoboken officials, the 3,100 square-foot rink uses synthetic ice which is designed for skating using regular metal-blade ice skates. Admission is free. Visitors may bring their own skates or rent skates for $10, and local vendors will be on-site to sell hot and cold drinks and food.
