Hoboken Mom Shows Parents The Ease Of Making Homemade Baby Food

One local mother is teaching parents how to prepare nutritious meals for Bergen County's youngest residents.

Nicole Jurick, a Hoboken resident, is the founder of Peasful Kitchen, a cooking school where parents learn how to make healthy, organic food for babies, toddlers, and their families.

Baby food can be expensive, said Jurick, and is often not very nutritious because of how it is prepared.

“It’s not cheap and the difference in taste and texture between store-bought food and food made at home is so much different,” Jurick said. “Even if it is a wonderful organic brand, the food has been heated up so it has a shelf life of two years, which destroys the flavor and texture and robs the food of much of its nutrition.”

Jurick and her business were featured on ABC’s “The Chew” recently. Jurick showed how to make a pea baby food and then used it to make a pea puree risotto.

Students not only learn how to prepare the food, they get to keep what they make.

“These classes are really easy and they help people get out of the rut of wondering what to make for dinner, not just for their babies, but for the entire family,” said Jurick, a Hoboken resident.
