Hoboken Municipal Complex Gets A Pricetag, And Now There's A New Survey

Residents can fill out a survey until April 18 about the planned Hoboken Municipal Complex, which would include a community center and more.

HOBOKEN, NJ —The city of Hoboken has finally put a pricetag on its proposed complex on 15th Street: $152 million. NJ.com reported that the price could rise to $192 million.

The plan would involve building a new municipal garage, public safety complex, library branch, and community center near the city's northern border.

The city has held a forum and survey for residents to discuss the plans, and has added a community pool as a result of resident feedback.

The city is now asking for more feedback on the revised plans. A survey is available through April 18 at 8 p.m., and can be found here, along with details of the project.

There has been some controversy over the project, as the owner of the longtime Poggi Press business, currently on that site at 15th and Adams streets, has opposed the idea of the city taking his land by eminent domain.

The city has said that the complex is much needed to replace outdated facilities. The city also needs to build a municipal garage as part of another agreement meant to keep northern waterfront land as open space.

The last in-person meeting was held April 4 at Fox Hills, the senior building at 311 13th St.

The city said, "The city and project consultants will review proposed alternatives for the final design of the Hoboken Municipal Complex based on the community feedback submitted during the first community meeting on March 16 and an online public survey."

They explained, "The complex is envisioned to upgrade Hoboken’s outdated police and fire headquarters and department of public works garage into one, centralized facility, that could also provide community amenities including recreation facilities and an uptown branch of the Hoboken Public Library."
