HOBOKEN, NJ — Three Hoboken restaurants won honors this month from Wine Spectator magazine.

The three local winners are: Court Street Restaurant and Bar, located on Hoboken's historic cobblestone street and a favorite in town since the 1980s; Del Frisco Grille on the city's South Waterfront, and Sorellina, a newer Italian restaurant uptown on the main street, Washington Street.

The magazine cited a "strength" for each location, saying that Del Frisco's strength is California wines, and noting their selection of more than 225 wines.

Court Street was cited for offering more than 390 wines, with strengths in California, French, and Italian wines.

Sorellina was cited for its strength in Italian wines, with a selection of more than 120 wines.

This year’s awards program recognized 3,169 dining destinations from all 50 states in the U.S. and more than 70 countries internationally, the magazine said.

“I want to congratulate all 3,169 restaurants that earned one of Wine Spectator’s three awards for their devotion to all things wine,” said Marvin Shanken, editor and publisher. “These awards not only guide our readers to dining establishments with impressive wine lists and outstanding service, but also serve to honor restaurants for their achievements and commitment to maintaining pristine cellars.”

Launched in 1981, the Restaurant Awards are assigned on three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award, with 1,782; 1,290; and 97 winners this year in each respective category.

Two winners of the Grand Award, the program’s highest honor, earned the award for the first time: Gabriel Kreuther in New York and Press Restaurant in Napa Valley.
