Hoboken And Jersey City Boil Water Advisory Lifted

HOBOKEN, NJ — A new Nixle alert sent out by the city of Hoboken after 4 p.m. Thursday said that a "boil water" advisory had been lifted for Hoboken and Jersey City, following a major water main break in each town.

"Laboratory test results show that the drinking water quality meets all regulatory requirements," said the alert. The results were submitted to the state's Department of Environmental Protection, who verified that the advisory could be lifted.

Hoboken had suffered a water main break at Madison and Eleventh streets on Wednesday. Photos showed that the break flooded nearby roads with muddy looking water. After 9 p.m., Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a Nixle alert that repairs would "likely last throughout the night."

The break came a day after residents were already told to boil water following a break near the Jersey City/Kearny border.

The "boil water" alert said residents should boil water for at least one minute for drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, mixing baby formula or food, washing food, feeding pets, and all other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for showering, washing dishes, or washing clothes.
Suez Tweeted that "A contractor not associated with SUEZ or the town of Kearny, struck a water main on Rt.7 between Kearny and Jersey City. It is difficult to estimate how long it will take to complete the repair."
