Hoboken Team Recruiting Runners, Dollars for Lincoln Tunnel Race
Last year 60 runners with the HobokOne team raised over $4,300 for the Special Olympics.

For one Sunday morning this April, as long as you keep your legs moving you won't have to suffer through that famously standstill Lincoln Tunnel traffic.
The tunnel is the route for the 26th annual Lincoln Tunnel Challenge on April 29, a 5k race that raises money for New Jersey athletes participating in the Special Olympics. There are over 22,000 athletes statewide who compete in over 160 events in 24 sports.
This year the Hoboken Family Alliance is again sponsoring a team to run the race under its theme of One Race, One Team and One Town. Last year the HFA and its inaugural HobokONE team raised over $4,300, which was the second highest amount of any team participating in the 5k.

According to Theresa Howard, the HFA board member who is organizing the team, the purpose of HobokONE is to unite the community towards raising money for the Special Olympics cause.
“The race is in our backyard, so let's represent Hoboken as one big team, the way we are one big town,” Howard said.

This year the HobokONE hopes to raise over $5,000. So far over two dozen donors have combined to give over $1,100.
The team is also looking to add more runners. Last year HobokONE included 60 members out of total of 3,500 race participants. The deadline to register is April 16.
The race is an official USA Track & Field sanctioned Grand Prix 500 point race that follows a route through the Lincoln Tunnel under the Hudson River to Manhattan and back. Some of the race sponsors include NJ Transit, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the WFAN and WCBS radio stations and interstate bus carrier Megabus.
Runners will have two options for completing the race. Those who can finish in under 25 minutes will begin at 8 a.m., and the rest of the field will start at 8:45 a.m.
After the race everyone on the HobokONE team is invited to enjoy free food and drinks at City Bistro. Howard said the Hoboken Family Alliance hopes to organize raffles and giveaways during the race after-party to benefit the bike camp for special needs children it is sponsoring July 9 to 13 at Hoboken High School.
