Hoboken, NJ Transit To Meet With Public About Changes To Plan For Ongoing Redevelopment

HOBOKEN, NJ — As a residential tower continues to rise at Hoboken's south end — built by NJ Transit — city officials have planned a meeting to update the public on changes to the agency's redevelopment plans.

In 2023, NJ Transit’s Board of Directors approved an agreement for a mixed use development at the city's southern border, with 386 apartments and a 20-story office tower. LCOR was chosen as the contractor for the project.

The project has already included infrastructure improvements to the bus and ferry terminal areas, and the plaza nearby.

The original plan was set to include 20 percent affordable housing in the residential apartment building, called "Charlie."

The project will also include a 20-story office tower, 5,000 sq. feet of retail space, and other open space improvements.

Public Meeting About Changes

NJ Transit and city officials plan to give an update to the public on proposed changes to the redevelopment plan and agreement, particularly relating to the area of Hudson Place and Hudson Street, which is near the train terminal.

The redevelopment will include three phases, providing 5,840 jobs during the construction and an estimated 7,265 jobs once it's completed, officials said in 2023.

Gov. Phil Murphy committed $176 million in the Fiscal Year 2023 state budget for the public improvement phase.

All improvements will be made in accordance with historic preservation guidelines where applicable, NJ Transit has said.
