Hoboken Will Have Drunk Driver Checkpoints At End Of Year

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken is one of the 112 New Jersey towns that has received money to watch out for drunk and impaired drivers starting Friday through Jan. 1, 2021.

Local and state law enforcement officials will be patrolling New Jersey roads as part of the annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" holiday campaign.

It's part of a nationwide effort to reduce crash risks during the holiday season, officials said. To assist with New Jersey's enforcement efforts, the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety has awarded grants totaling $656,340 to 112 towns across the state to fund enhanced patrolling and high-visibility sobriety checkpoints.

Last year, the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday campaign resulted in 1,380 DWI arrests (alcohol and/or drugs) statewide; and participating police agencies issued 4,960 and 2,023 speeding and seat belt summonses, respectively, officials said.

As with many of the towns, Hoboken received $6,000 for its effort.

Other towns received money in Hudson County:

• Bayonne, $6,000
• North Bergen, $7,200
• Union City, $7,200
