Hudson County Nursing Home Coronavirus Cases, Deaths Released
Hudson County has nine nursing homes that have reported at least one patient's death due to the coronavirus, officials said.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Nine nursing care facilities in Hudson County have had at least one patient who died of complications from the new coronavirus, and 12 have had at least one case of the virus.
Those are some of the numbers revealed Monday when the state Department of Health released information on all nursing facilities in New Jersey who have reported at least one case of the coronavirus.
The listing comes after weeks of requests for the information and repeated warnings from the state to the owners of long-term care facilities about their need to report the information to patients, employees and patients' families, Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said Monday.

Long-term care facilities have been a point of concern since the earliest stages of the outbreak, as has been potential spillover to the senior community at large.
In Hudson County, there were 396 total cases at long term care facilities and 69 deaths, according to the state. Countywide, 11,150 people have had positive test results, and 492 deaths. That means countywide, at least 14 percent of the deaths due to coronavirus were linked to nursing homes.
As 45 of the deaths have occurred at two long-term care facilities in North Bergen (see below), Mayor Nicholas Sacco said he is working with the local health department.
"Our Health Department is working with these facilities to put as many safeguards in place as possible, such as isolating residents and not allowing visitors to enter," Sacco said. "I ask all of North Bergen to join me in mourning these men and women and praying for them and their families."
On Tuesday, township Health Director Janet Mastro said, "We are actively monitoring our long term care facilities and are receiving daily updates from the management at these facilities. In addition we are maintaining an open line of communication with the State Department of Health, regarding all outbreaks in the town. Our local Health Department continues to work with state officials in ensuring protocols are followed and facilities are being as transparent as possible with staff, residents and family members during this outbreak."
There were 88,806 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus across New Jersey as of Monday, and 4,377 of them have died, according to the state health department. Read more: NJ Coronavirus Updates: Here's What You Need To Know
Here are the facilities in Hudson County that have patients positive for the coronavirus, along with deaths (in parentheses) that have been confirmed as a coronavirus case at those facilities.
Not everyone has been tested, and there may be discrepancies due to a delay in communications between the facilities and the state.
Also, the state's health commissioner said Tuesday that the data was "self reported" by the nursing homes. Regarding any discrepancies, "We’re giving them an opportunity to clean up the data," she said.
