Hudson County Woman Named ‘Family Lawyer of the Year’

The Hudson County Bar Association named Tanya Freeman, a Jersey City attorney, as its "Family Lawyer of the Year" for 2017.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The Hudson County Bar Association has announced that it will honor local lawyer Tanya Freeman, a West Orange resident and board member at University Hospital in Newark, as its “Family Lawyer of the Year” for 2017.

Freeman, a partner at Weiner Law Group in Jersey City, is known for her “adept handling of celebrity and high-asset cases,” as well as her “trademark compassion and foresight,” according to the Hudson County Bar Association.

“After over a decade leading audit teams, Freeman entered the legal world. She was licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey in 2012, after graduating cum laude. In 2014, Governor Christie appointed Freeman to the Board of Directors of University Hospital in Newark, where she serves as the Chair of the Governance, Ethics and Legal Committee. Following her 2015 landmark victory in Desai v. Desai, the Thomson Reuters list of New Jersey Super Lawyers named her a ‘Rising Star’ for two consecutive years. She was also elected to the Board of Trustees for the Hudson County Bar Association in 2016.”

“Freeman received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science cum laude from Caldwell College and her Juris Doctor cum laude from Touro Law School. Prior to joining her husband to practice law, Freeman spent 15 years in banking and insurance in a variety of capacities directing operational audit teams.

“In addition to the practice of law, Freeman devotes time to community efforts, which include her service as Chair to the Juvenile Justice/Family Court Subcommittee of the Hudson County Vicinage Minority Concerns Committee. Additionally, she previously served as a member of the Board of Directors, Salvation Army in Jersey City, New Jersey and a member of the Board of Directors for the University of Phoenix, Jersey City Campus. Freeman lives in West Orange with her husband and six children.”
