Hudson County Women’s Choir Shares Universal Language Of Music
The Cantigas Women's Choir has sung with female inmates, performed at Jersey City's "Big Read" and caroled at the Alaris Nursing Home.
HOBOKEN, NJ — They’ve sung with inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women, performed at Jersey City’s “Big Read” and Hoboken’s “Night Out” and caroled at the Alaris Nursing Home. And they’re on the scene again for a new season of music for the Fall 2019 semester.
The Cantigas Women’s Choir in Hudson County recently put out a call for singers of all vocal ranges – but especially altos – as it geared up for its new season. The group held its first rehearsal of the autumn last week in Hoboken.

“Under the tutelage of artistic director Hannah Carr, Cantigas is a diverse 40-person women’s choir that seeks to share the universal language of music. With musical selections hailing from countless countries across the world, each Cantigas season is a unique and wholly gratifying cultural experience for its members and their audience.”
The fall season runs from September to December, culminating with a winter concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 440 Hoboken Avenue in Jersey City. Visit the choir’s website for more information.
