Hudson School In Hoboken Gets Its 3rd Headmaster In 45 Years

Rebekah Sollitto will be the third headmaster in the history of the independent Hudson School, founded in Hoboken in 1978.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hudson School — an independent day school in Hoboken that will become preK through 12 next fall — has just announced that a new headmaster will take the helm in July.

Rebekah Sollitto will take over for current headmaster Paul Perksinon starting on July 1, 2024.

Sollitto will be only the third headmaster in the school's 45-year story. The school was founded in Hoboken in 1978 by educator Suellen Newman, who retired in 2016.

The Hudson School (THS) is proud to announce the appointment of Rebekah Sollitto as its new Head of School.

Following an extensive and rigorous search process conducted by the school's search committee, she will officially assume her role on July 1, 2024 to become the third Head of School in the school's 45-year history.

Rebekah brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education to THS. With an impressive career spanning over two decades, Rebekah currently serves as the Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives at Poly Prep in Brooklyn. In this role, she has focused on school improvement, including the areas of communications, strategic planning and human esources.

Her illustrious track record features a history of record-breaking admissions achievements and aligning institutional practices with a broader mission.

Prior to her work at Poly Prep, Rebekah taught and led in the math and computer science departments at Nightingale-Bamford for ten years, working to innovate curriculum content.

Sollitto's dedication to educational excellence and her commitment to fostering vibrant, inclusive learning environments have distinguished her throughout her career.

Rebekah’s educational background includes an undergraduate degree in psychology from Harvard University, a master's degree in technology education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Master of Education in Independent School Leadership from the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University.

Rebekah expressed her excitement about her new role, stating, "I am honored to join THS and to be part of a community committed to nurturing the limitless potential of its students, especially during such a pivotal and exciting time in the school’s history. I look forward to working with the dedicated faculty, staff, students and families to continue the school's tradition of excellence and innovation."

Daniel Gans, Board Chair of THS, commented on the landmark appointment, saying, "We are thrilled to welcome Rebekah Sollitto as the new Head of School at THS. Her extensive experience, innovative thinking and alignment with the school's mission makes her the ideal choice to lead our institution into the future."

THS has a rich history of providing a rigorous and supportive educational environment for young scholars. The school's foundational pillars of courage, compassion and commitment continue to drive its pursuit of educational excellence and community engagement.

THS’s Upper School was added in 1991 by student petition and has been located at 601 Park Ave. campus since 2002. The 2023 merger with Mustard Seed School (Fourth and Willow) further strengthened the school’s commitment to providing a comprehensive PK through Grade 12 educational experience.
