Iconic Dom's Bakery Announces It Will Close After 43 Years In Hoboken

Iconic Dom's Bakery in Hoboken will open for the last time Saturday. They had a message for patrons about their "Last Bake."

HOBOKEN, NJ — When Hoboken's iconic Dom's Bakery bakes its last bread on Saturday, you can be there to buy one of the last hot loaves — and get a chapbook as well.

The Hoboken Historic Museum said it will be there for the "last bake" from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, handing out chapbooks about the Grand Street establishment.

The bakery and two apartments were listed for sale last fall for $2.25 million. Owners Dom and Flo Castelitto said last week that they plan to retire.

"We have been lucky to serve the residents of Hoboken and numerous businesses for the past 43 years," posted Dom's Bakery on social media last weekend. "Unfortunately, the time has come for us to close this chapter of our lives."

The Rundown

As reported first in Patch, the iconic bakery announced last weekend that it would close because the owners are retiring.

The bakery is a regional favorite. Esquire wrote in 2010: "On a Friday morning early, the traffic through the door at Dom's is heavy, as a steady stream of locals double-park to run in ... The bread that comes out of that back room at this time of day is so fresh that it's still warm, almost steaming."

"I drive 45 minutes out of my way for your bread," wrote one fan on social media on Saturday, in response to the announcement.

"Nothing great lasts forever," said another.

The bakery is located at 506 Grand St.
