According to the state, pharmacists can only vaccinate kids 3 and above, so the pharmacies can't vaccinate younger children at Friday's clinic.

However, the children's pediatricians can vaccinate them. Also, the county of Hudson is running clinics for kids 6 months and up. See Tuesday's story on Hoboken Patch for the link to get appointments: COVID Vaccine Available To Kids 6 Months And Up At Hudson County Site

Children ages six months to five years recently became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, following approval from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration.

Children are less likely to become seriously ill from COVID than adults, but more than 200,000 children nationwide have lost a parent or other in-home caregiver to the virus.

Over the last week, the state said there were 84 deaths statewide from COVID-19.

Earlier this month, federal officials suggested a return to masks in indoor spaces in 13 counties.

This week, the Maplewood school district re-instituted a mask mandate in several schools, and for graduation this Friday at Columbia High School.
