Light Rail Train Collides With Car Near Hoboken/Jersey City Border (Update)

A crash between a train and car near the Hoboken/Jersey City border temporarily closed roads and suspended trains. See update below.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hudson-Bergen Light Rail trains between Hoboken and Jersey City were temporarily suspended Thursday after a train collided with a car in Hoboken.

An NJ Transit spokesperson said that just before 12:30 p.m., a light rail train heading north through Hoboken "made contact with a motor vehicle" at the Paterson Plank Road crossing in southern Hoboken.

The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the spokesperson said.

The one passenger on the train was evaluated by emergency medical services at the site, and also taken to a local hospital.

Light rail service was suspended in both directions between the Second Street and Newport stations, but resumed shortly after 1 p.m.

Paterson Plank Road was also closed between Harrison Street in Hoboken and Congress Street in Jersey City.

NJ Transit is investigating, the spokesperson said.
