Limiting Cannabis Dispensaries In Hoboken? Next Meeting Set

The Hoboken City Council will vote at its next meeting on an ordinance limiting cannabis dispensaries in town to 6.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken City Council is set for a final vote at its next meeting, April 6, on a series of laws governing cannabis dispensaries, including one limiting them to six in the mile-square city.

The proposals first arose after Hoboken's relatively new Cannabis Review Board approved a non-medical dispensary in February, and considered two others.

Residents who were frustrated with the approval process posted a petition.

And a fourth non-medical facility has posted signage on Washington Street and is waiting to come before the Cannabis Review Board:

At this past Wednesday's City Council meeting, the council passed an ordinance to ban cannabis smoking in parks, and introduced an ordinance to ban dispensaries from the area of Marine View Plaza near the south waterfront.

Certain other cannabis rules are up for a final vote at the next meeting. They include a rule forcing dispensaries to give notice to neighbors within 200 feet before a public hearing, and a rule making sure dispensaries are at least 600 feet away from schools.

"I'm happy to see the City Council and the mayor aligned in moving forward on common sense regulations for cannabis dispensaries for residents, families, and our children," said Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, in response to the past Wednesday's meeting.
