WEEHAWKEN, NJ — Port Authority police arrested a local jitney driver on Monday who allegedly had more than 650 E-ZPass violations and owed more than $50,000 in tolls and fees.
According to Port Authority officials, an officer on patrol near the Lincoln Tunnel toll plaza in Weehawken spotted a white jitney bus traveling eastbound around 3:30 p.m. Recognizing the vehicle via its registration as a “known toll evader,” the officer pulled the jitney driver over.
After speaking with the driver – Bertha D. Moreno, 62, of West New York – the officer found that Moreno allegedly had 653 E-ZPass violations that amounted to $50,990 in tolls and fees.

“The E-ZPass transponder displayed was displayed in an omnibus that [Moreno] was operating, but was actually appropriate only for use in a passenger vehicle,” a Port Authority spokesman stated.
