Longtime NJ Waterfront Restaurant Has Closed; Here's What Next Owners Say
A large waterfront restaurant in New Jersey closed for good on Friday. Here's the concept that's replacing it.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A longtime waterfront restaurant in Weehawken closed Friday, and will be replaced by a new concept next year, NJ Monthly reported.
The Chart House, a sprawling eatery with views of the Manhattan skyline, opened in 1986. It famously suffered a major fire in 1998 — forcing weddings and other events to be relocated — and reopened two years later.
But as of Friday, it closed for good. It will be renovated this year and reopen next year as Mastro’s Steakhouse, which is famous for steaks, seafood, and one special dessert.

"We are excited to be bringing the Mastro’s experience to Weehawken!" the Mastro's chain said in an announcement. "Get ready to indulge in USDA Prime steaks, premium seafood and raw bar offerings, a spectacular seafood display, creative sushi, and decadent desserts, including the iconic warm Butter Cake."
A call to the Chart House in Weehawken was not answered, and the Weehawken location has been removed from the list of restaurants on the Chart House website. The eatery did not respond to a message sent on Sunday.
