Man Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting Of Hoboken's Chris Garcia

A Jersey City man was arrested at a motel Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Chris Garcia of Hoboken.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A Jersey City man was apprehended by U.S. marshals in a motel room on Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in the September shooting death of Hoboken's Chris Garcia, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday.

Deon Williams, 25, was arrested at a hotel on International Boulevard in Elizabeth by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the United States Marshals Service of New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Froce.

Williams was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Hoboken Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of 560 Marshall Drive.

Officers found Garcia, 28, with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 3:56 a.m.

Friends of Garcia have said he was shot after attempting to break up a fight.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the HCPO’s Homicide Unit, the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Hoboken Police Department with the
arrest and investigation.
