HOBOKEN, NJ — A 27-year-old Hoboken resident was able to drop nine pounds after eating mainly at one local restaurant, he said.

Tim Donahue decided to eat only at Sweetgreen for nearly a month after co-workers at his New York advertising firm called out his habit of eating fast food — while they regularly ordered at the salad chain — the New York Post reported Friday.

In a video that Donahue posted to social media under the name "Tim Possible," Donahue said he dropped to 178 pounds, was able to do pull-ups for the first time in three years, and stopped craving other foods.

While he mostly ate from the Sweetgreen in Hoboken, he tried other locations — particularly when he accidentally ordered from one that was 45 minutes away, he noted in the video.

Although he slimmed down, there were downsides, he said.

He felt "miserable" eating only from one place.

The Takeaway

"Balance is important," he said. "What you eat completely affects your energy."

He spent a total of $997, he said, or around $40 a day. He ate 50 bowls and 20 sides.

"I mean, I don't look like Captain America," he said, "but it's been 25 days."

Exceptions

He noted his amusement at the fact that no one at the local store mentioned seeing him twice a day for weeks.

He also kept a spreadsheet with statistics on his stools (you'll have to see for yourself).

"It goes without saying," he said, "but this is not an ad, and I don't recommend it."

The healthy ingredients may not have been the only reason Donahue lost weight. He also gave up alcohol, he said, but refused to stop drinking black coffee.

Patch reached out to Donahue for comment, and will update this story if more details are received.

New Store

As reported by Patch, the Sweetgreen in Hoboken opened in August 2025, offering dozens of fresh ingredients in bowls.

The Washington Street spot serves up rice, greens, protein plates, and other items, featuring the Harvest Bowl, Crispy Rice Bowl, Caramelized Garlic Steak, Miso Glazed Salmon, and more.

A report in a restaurant industry newsletter said that Sweetgreen loved Donahue's idea, and launched its own 30-day challenge.
