Man Smashes Animal Shelter Door, Throws Cat: Liberty Humane

A N.J. animal shelter says that a man smashed the front door with a rock, ran inside and threw an injured cat in a box at one of the staff.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Staff at a Hudson County animal shelter are trying to stay positive after a man smashed their door and threw a caged cat into the building. But understandably, many at the Liberty Humane Society (LHS) are still “rattled,” the shelter reported.

On Monday, the LHS – which services Hudson County municipalities including Hoboken and Jersey City – gave the following account of the startling incident:

“This morning at 11:55 a.m. a man acting erratically smashed our shelter front door with a rock, ran inside, and threw an injured cat in a box at one of our staff members. We try to stay positive, but this has staff rattled. Animal welfare can be a contentious place, and we’re so grateful for our supporters who understand, empathize and lift us up as we continue this work, no matter what comes our way. If you can, please consider donating to our Fix It Fund to replace our door. Now we’re going to go cuddle some kittens.”

The LHS Fix It Fund can be seen here.
