Driver Charged With Death By Auto After Hitting 2 In Hudson County Park: Officials

A Carteret man who struck two victims in a Hudson County park in January, one fatally, was arrested Tuesday.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Three months after a car struck two people in a park in Hudson County, killing one, a Middlesex County man has been charged.

Zaire Ferguson, 27, of Carteret, was arrested Tuesday and charged with death by auto and driving with a suspended license, among other charges, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.

Gary Gross, 58, of Kearny, was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark on Jan. 15, a week after he and another man were struck by a car while walking in West Hudson Park in Harrison.

The 48-year-old Kearny man who was with him was also hospitalized, prosecutors said.

The pair were walking on Woodland Drive in West Hudson Park about 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 8. The driver remained at the scene, prosecutors said at the time.

Ferguson turned himself in to the Prosecutor's Office Tuesday and was also charged with assault by auto and causing serious bodily injury while driving suspended, prosecutors said.

He was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to await his first court appearance.
