Maxwell’s In Hoboken Will Close; New Owners Call It Quits
Get ready to say goodbye to Maxwell's Tavern in Hoboken… for a second time.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Get ready to say goodbye to Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken… for a second time.
On Saturday, the iconic Hudson County music venue announced on social media that it is in the process of “winding down operations.” Maxwell’s will host two final nights of music on Friday. Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10. Learn more here.
The venue’s owners thanked its patrons for “all the support over the years.”

After more than three decades in business, the well-known indie club closed in 2013. At the time, the owners said the decision to close had more to do with the changing character of Hoboken than the rising cost of rent.
"The culture in Hoboken is driven by reality TV now," co-owner Todd Abramson said. "A lot of the bars downtown are fighting with each other for who has the most giant TVs. That's what Hoboken nightlife has become."

New owners reopened Maxwell’s at 1039 Washington Street as a restaurant and performance venue in 2014.
WHAT’S ON TAP FOR MAXWELL’S FINALE?
According to Maxwell’s, any local musicians looking to help the venue go out with a bang can get a final chance to step on stage at an open mic night on Friday, Feb. 9. There is no cover charge. The open mic starts at 8:30 p.m. and is 21 and over only.
In addition, Maxwell’s will host a multi-band show on Saturday, Feb. 10:
“Join us for an extraordinary night of music featuring Deaf Rhino, Waylaid, One Hundred Thousand, Chevonne and The Fuzz, Jaime Rose Band, Liam Brown & The Pounds, and Wailing Denims. Doors to back room open at 7 p.m. Reggae rockers CC Roots - aka Cecilia Celeste - will be jamming in the front bar starting at 10 p.m. Entry to front bar and back room will be free but is 21 and over only."
