Hoboken MutzFest (With Cannoli Contest) To Return, Possibly For Last Time. Find Out Why.

HOBOKEN, NJ — MutzFest, a charity event that celebrates Hoboken's favorite fresh cheese — with other fun events for all ages — will take place this coming Sunday outside under the 14th Street Viaduct. It raises money for the Hoboken Family Alliance's programs, including a camp to help kids with disabilities ride bikes.

However, it may not run for much longer, said organizer Theresa Howard.

The annual event has become popular not only for its delicious eats, but also for extras like a biergarten, cannoli eating contest, and Sinatra sing-a-long. But Howard said that the delis providing the free food have been giving it their all.

"These delis have been doing this for us for 10 years," Howard said. "Biancamano and Vito's are two of the founding participants and have been with us every year. Everyone is so generous but I know it's a big ask for them because they incur labor and food costs, closing up early and reallocating labor. The only time we've paid them was in 2020."

She added, "The pandemic hit, and we donated some of the proceeds back to them since they were all closed. And not everyone even took it! I feel bad always asking."

Howard said the future of the event is uncertain. But for this year, tickets are for sale, and will help local programs like Bike Hoboken, while helps kids with disabilities obtain and ride two-wheel bikes.

"We love the energy and community that Mutzfest has created but after this one we are going to assess how to continue so we can support our generous participants in the way that they have supported us.
