Suspect Sought In Death Of North Bergen Dad: Hudson County Prosecutor

UNION CITY, NJ — A suspect has been named in the fatal shooting of North Bergen man in Union City last week.

Luis Marin, 57, of North Bergen, is being sought in connection with the fatal shooting of David Pulgarin, 42, last Monday, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Marin is wanted on charges of murder, certain persons not to have a weapon, and other weapons charges, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors had said that just after 1:50 a.m. Monday, the Union City Police Department got a report of shots fired in the area of Bergenline Avenue and 44th Street.

Police found David Pulgarin, 42, of North Bergen with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 a.m.

Family Makes Request

Candles, flowers, and a balloon were placed at the site of the fatal confrontation last week.

Videos posted to social media appeared to show the confrontation.

One video shows two men struggling in the street, with one on top of the other. The man on top walks away, leaving the other lying on the curb. Another video shows a woman overcome with grief at the site.

In a fundraiser, Pulgarin's family asked the community to stop sharing videos, out of respect for the victim's young son.

"We kindly ask for your understanding and discretion during this difficult time," says a GoFundMe post. "Given the sensitive nature of this loss, we sincerely request that you refrain from sharing or circulating details or content related to the incident.

"Our intention is to protect the emotional well-being, privacy, and peace of his beloved son, who is navigating an immense loss. We truly appreciate your compassion, respect, and support."

The prosecutor's Homicide Unit and the Union City Police Department are investigating.
