NORTH JERSEY — Ho-Ho-Kus based comedian Charles Pearson used to perform comedy at a cannabis product shop in Hoboken called the Green Room.

Now he's opening his own comedy club in the store's former uptown location. (The other location, near the Hoboken Train Terminal, remains open.)

Last weekend, Pearson could be found putting finishing touches on his small but professional-looking club on 14th Street, leaving the door open so passers-by could wander in and see something new is on the way.

"Mad Funny" will host its first show this Saturday night.

"It's a comedy club started by a comedian, for comedians," said Pearson. "We are going to have the biggest shows in America, because we're giving back to the comedians."

A bit ambitious? Pearson said that after the shows, they'll award $500 to the funniest performer of the night. The comedians will also be paid.

The uptown 14th Street shop opened in 2021, but closed recently.

The lineup for Mad Funny's first show includes Pearson, as well as Tim Rager, Eric Spicely, Chris Riggins, Brittany Brave, Ray Bentley, Eagle Witt, Fabrizio Copano, and Marito Lopez.

The doors open at 7:45 p.m. for the first show on Saturday.

Mad Funny is located at 109 14th St. in Hoboken. Get tickets at MadFunny.com.
