New Movie, 'History Of Sound,' Filming in Uptown Hoboken

A movie that Variety characterized as a "gay romance" set during World War I was spotted filming in uptown Hoboken this week.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A film crew dealt with a soggy set on Wednesday as they filmed a new movie, "The History of Sound," in uptown Hoboken.

The new film stars Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor, and is being directed by Oliver Hermanus.

Based on an award-winning short story by Ben Shattuck (which can be read here), the story follows two young men charged with traveling the country to record the folk songs of their countrymen, during World War I.
