Rob Menendez beat back a challenge from Mussab Ali to clinch the Democratic nomination for Congress.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Rob Menendez Jr. beat back a challenge from Mussab Ali on Tuesday to clinch the Democratic nomination for 8th District Congress, the Associated Press reported.

Menendez will run again in November for a third two-year term representing Hoboken, Elizabeth, part of Newark, part of Jersey City, and several other Hudson County towns.

Menendez faced a primary challenge from former Jersey City school board president Ali. Both candidates live in Jersey City.

Both candidates have criticized the current presidential administration.

The Associated Press said that Menendez beat Ali nearly 3:1. However, ballots could be mailed in as late as 8 p.m. Tuesday, so the final numbers are not known.

The 8th Congressional District includes Bayonne, East Newark, Elizabeth, Guttenberg, Harrison, Hoboken, part of Jersey City, part of Kearny, part of Newark, North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York.
