NJ High School And College Students Intern For State Assembly

A high school student in Hoboken interned in the state legislature this summer, and visited the State House. Here is his report.

NEW JERSEY — In July, Natalie Stempinski, an intern working with the New Jersey Assembly Majority Office, organized a tour of the New Jersey State House for all Assembly interns working across the state.

During the private tour, interns were able to learn more about the state, as well as get a better idea of how day-to-day New Jersey politics work.

Stempinski believes that it is important to host events like this as it helps interns from around the state network and get to know their peers.

Stempinski explained that, considering many of the state’s interns are high school and college students interested in political science, events like these serve as a way for the students to establish relationships that may be useful throughout their careers.

Stempinski said, “Events such as this hopefully serve as a launch pad to a future of meaningful, lasting professional relationships.”

In addition to helping student interns to network, Stempinski was able to show interns things not normally visible to the general public, such as the governor's office.

Stempinski hopes that another tour like this can happen in the near future, and is adamant about her office maintaining events in the future geared towards student interns.

She added, “I hope[s] [that] these relationships with other interns continue to be facilitated.”
