NJ Man Wanted In 'Brutal' Murder Shoots Self In Washington: Cops

PORT LUDLOW, WA - A New Jersey man wanted in the "brutal" murder of a Bellevue woman killed himself and shot at two others on Tuesday. Krishna Mahadevan-Prasad, 20, "mutilated" a woman at the Renton Econo Lodge, according to police, and then fled to western Washington state.

According to police, Mahadevan-Prasad made it as far as the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge at Port Ludlow when he tried to continue his killing spree. The woman found dead in the Econo Lodge hotel room "suffered numerous cut wounds to the body including what appeared to be intentional mutilation," according to Renton police.

Just before 4 a.m., three vehicles were lined up on the west side of SR 104 waiting to cross the Hood Canal Bridge. Mahadevan-Prasad opened fire, shooting at the car in front of him and the car behind him. Mahadevan-Prasad then committed suicide by shooting himself, according to police.

The man driving in the rear car was injured when a bullet grazed his elbow. He was asleep at the time of the shooting, according to Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Trooper Chelsea Hodgson.

If that's not miraculous enough, the people in the front car, a Ford SUV, were even luckier.

A father was sitting in the driver seat of the SUV with his 5 and 6-year-old daughters in the back. He was leaning over toward the passenger seat when a bullet came through the rear windshield and traveled straight through the back of his headrest. The bullet also missed his daughters.

Mahadevan-Prasad may be involved in other acts of violence, according to Renton police.

"The circumstances of the Renton homicide have investigators concerned that Mahadevan-Prasad may be responsible for other acts of violence. Mahadevan-Prasad was active duty military and his travels are unknown," Renton police wrote in a press release Tuesday night.
