Fundraiser Set For Hudson County Police Officer, 28, Killed In Crash On Way To Work

A fundraiser has been set for funeral expenses for North Bergen Police Officer Julio Noriega, 28, who died on the way to work Saturday.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Twenty-eight year old North Bergen Police Officer Julio Noriega was on his way to work when he died in a car crash Saturday, police confirmed. A fundraiser has been set up for funeral expenses.

"He was truly a humble soul," says the fundraising page.

Noriega died in a crash on Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen at 7:03 a.m., police said. Multiple reports said he had had a collision with a garbage truck.

The fundraiser had raised more than $26,000 toward the $50,000 goal as of Sunday night.

"Prior to becoming a North Bergen Police Officer," says the fundraising page, "Noriega served as a Communications Officer with the North Bergen Police Department from 2015 to 2019. Noriega was then hired by the North Bergen Police Department in January of 2019 as a Police Officer and
graduated the Bergen County Police Academy in June of 2019, where he was then assigned to the Patrol Division.

The North Bergen Police Department in Hudson County posted on Facebook on Saturday:


"There really aren't enough kind words in any language to describe what a great person Julio was," says the fundraising page. "He was truly a humble soul. He will be missed terribly."
