Police Find Man Deceased In Park In Hoboken Monday (UPDATE)

Investigators said the man, who usually lived in Hoboken, was found unresponsive at Church Square Park Monday morning.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police found a homeless individual deceased in Church Square Park on Monday morning, they confirmed late Monday.

"Earlier this morning, our department responded to an unresponsive homeless male in Church Square Park," said Lt. Jonathan Mecka. "Both medical and police units responded; however, he was unfortunately pronounced deceased on-scene. Our detectives are looking into the incident which doesn’t appear to be suspicious at this time."

Mecka said the man's usual residence was Hoboken, although he had also been seen in other areas of Hudson County.

Around 8:15 Monday morning, two police were seen standing guard in the area directly in front of a park bench, with an ambulance parked nearby. Then, other investigators arrived to assist and set up a tent to remove the person.

The police said there was no danger to the public.

A spokesperson from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said that they were referring all inquires to local police.

Police did not release further information.
