HOBOKEN, NJ — A coffee shop that's been serving up lattes and baked goods in downtown Hoboken for 10 years announced Thursday that it will close after this weekend.

Last month, The Roost Outpost had posted a note for customers on social media saying the landlords had asked for a steep rent increase. They said they were still negotiating to extend their lease.

On Thursday, they posted a new letter on social media.

It said, "Our café was not able to secure a lease extension for our location at 55 First St. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that this will be our last week of full service wrapping up Sunday, March 22.

"As members of the Hoboken community that love this town dearly, we want to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to each and every one of you."

They also said that the goodbye is not forever, and they will seek out new space.

"You are the best coffee in Hoboken!," wrote a fan, after their original announcement. "Hope you are able to find a new space."

Someone also started a petition, saying, "Small businesses are the backbone of local economies."

The spot is located on First Street, a quaint side street that also held a longtime barbershop until late 2024. READ MORE: Longtime Barbershop Closes, Barbers Move
