Popular Restaurant With Live Music Shuts In Hoboken
"It was time to take care of myself," says the owner of a popular eatery with a long history in Hoboken.
HOBOKEN, NJ — After 17 years of serving up breakfast sandwiches and live music in a cozy space, owner Stephen Bailey has closed D's Soul Full Cafe, much to the chagrin of his regulars. The eatery — which had once been home to the Bagel Smashery before that cafe moved downtown — closed for good on Sunday.
"It’s with a heavy heart that we came to this very tough decision," the restaurant posted on social media last week. "After nearly 17 years, our last day will be May 14. We will be posting more details soon. We want to thank everyone for these crazy years here in Hoboken." #FeedYourSoul
The restaurant is auctioning off several items here.

The small eatery often displayed art and had a space for live music. Here's a list of musicians who played there.
"The main reason for closing was my health. While financial difficulties played a part, we’d been through that before," Bailey said on Monday. "This was different. Too many years working too many hours had taken its toll. As much as I love being part of — and feeding — this community, it was time to take care of myself."

He added, "I’ll still be in Hoboken and hope to continue doing things for the community, but I’ll also be spending quality time with friends, family, and by myself. For now I’ll be working odd jobs here and there. I’m not really sure what the future holds. What I do know is, as sad as this is, I’m looking forward to the change."
Bailey said he doesn't know what will occupy the space next.
