
There’s a lot of money in Hoboken.
A recent report from Nerd Wallet, a financial information provider, stated that Hoboken is among American’s highest-earning cities when ranked by median household income. With 54 percent of its residents earning more than $100,000, Hoboken ranked 41st in the nation in that regard, according to the report.
In addition, 33.2 percent of Hoboken residents make a yearly salary above $150,000 and 19.5 percent make above $200,000, the report stated.

But how much are Hoboken’s other 50 percent earning?
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, about 9.6 percent of Hoboken’s families and 11 percent of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.7 percent of those under age 18 and 24.4 percent of those aged 65 or over.

As recently as last fall, Hoboken residents were lining up in the hundreds for the chance to get low-income housing, according to one account.
