HOBOKEN, NJ — As companies vie to open cannabis dispensaries in the mile-square city of Hoboken, one retail shop on the city's main drag got approved this week, while another endured its fourth Planning Board hearing and will have the application heard again in the future.

At Wednesday's Hoboken City Council meeting, a "micro" cannabis shop at 628 Washington Street narrowly received approval.

Blue Violets Dispensary announced their approval on social media:

A chief complaint was that this dispensary was near several schools.

The Larger Dispensary

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Hoboken Planning Board heard the continued application of Story Dispensary, which would open in a storefront owned by the wife of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, and her partners.

The dispensary would take over the former Hudson Tavern restaurant spot at 14th and Hudson streets, a corner with condos and retail shops near the northern waterfront.

Some residents of the area have opposed the application. Approximately 1,800 people have signed a petition against the dispensary.
